We know that the games initially that were played on the computers were purely DOS based games. There have been some extraordinary popular DOS games of the 90’s which we still remember. DOS games are not very popular these days because of the new high graphical and 3D games but still some of the old DOS games are really worth to try. Moreover they are easily available on the net and they are free for download. They are small in size and they are legal.

You may not be able to run them directly on your new systems but with the help of few programs you can play DOS games on your computer. Most preferred way to do this is to install DOSBox on your computer. It creates an environment for running the DOS applications. It can be run by simple graphical interface. D-Fend is the most popular DOSBox used by people. After installing this application you can drag and drop the games folder in this and then start playing it!

Play DOS games on web browser:

JPC is a simple program that is based on Java platform and it is x86 emulator which can run the DOS applications on browsers which have Java plugin. In sites like www.classicdosgames.com you can find hundreds of such popular DOS games and play them on the browser. It may not be as quick as the DOSBox but you can play many games without installing them and if you like any game then you may go ahead and download it.
